Why we’re building Home Sapien
Hiring for a big home project shouldn’t feel like a gamble. Today it usually does: you hand a stranger a five-figure check on faith, after “getting quotes” meant your phone number being sold to whoever paid for it.
Home Sapien is being built around one idea: the money should protect both sides. Describe your project once. A few vetted local pros bid blind on the same scope — no phone tag, no anchoring off each other’s prices. When you hire, your payment is held safe and released only as you approve the finished work. The pro knows the money is real; you know it doesn’t move until the work is right.
Who’s behind it
Home Sapien is an independent project built by Charney Hoffmann in Utah — one founder, unaffiliated with any lead-generation company, building the marketplace he wished existed the last time he hired a contractor. It opens area by area, starting with outdoor projects in Utah, because doing this well in one place beats doing it loudly everywhere.
What we will and won’t do
We will verify every pro’s license and insurance before they bid. We will keep bidding blind, so jobs are won on the work. We will hold funds until you approve. We will never sell your contact information — we’re paid through the transaction, not by selling you. That’s the whole difference between a marketplace and a lead site.
Where it stands today
We’re in early preview: free local cost estimates are live, and homeowners and contractors are joining the launch list by area. Funds-protected bidding opens one area and trade at a time as soon as enough local pros are ready. If that’s something you want where you live — get your estimate or join the founding pros, and you’ll hear from us the moment it opens near you.
Questions, skepticism, ideas? support@homesapien.app — it lands with the founder.
